Be Thou My Vision

One of the most beautiful hymns I know is Be Thou My Vision.  Countless times I have stood in a congregation on Sunday morning feeling a little dis-sorted or un-something and then this hymn is listed as one to sing, the organ starts playing, the congregation stands and I am in humbled and thankful awe, once again, for the blessings of God Moments and serendipity and community and small miracles.

Be Thou my vision, O Lord of my heart;
Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art.
Thou my best thought, by day or by night,
Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light.

Be Thou my Wisdom, Be Thou my true Word;
Be Thou ever with me and I with thee, Lord;
Be Thou my great Father and I thy true son;
Be Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one.

Be Thou my breast plate, my sword for the fight,
Be Thou my dignity, Thou my delight.
Thou my soul's shelter, Thou my high tower.
Raise Thou me heavenward, Great Power of my power.

Riches I heed not, nor man's empty praise,
Be Thou mine inheritance, now and always:
Be Thou and Thou only, the first in my heart,
Thou Sovereign of heaven, my Treasure Thou art.

High King of heaven, my victory won,
May I reach heaven's joys, O bright heav'ns Son!
Heart of my own heart, whatever befall,
Still be Thou my vision, O ruler of all.

Amen.  Amen.  Again and again. Amen.

    This is my first comment, so bear with me. I love your spirituality and how you look at life. You have inspired me to start writing a blog and maybe create a photoblog for my emerging photography business. I look forward to your next blog posting. Off to work out.

  2. John - from the bottom of my heart, thank you. For taking the time to read my musings. For taking the time to leave me a note letting me know that it was okay. For sending me wine! And especially for your gift of friendship!
